The struggle to control the Senate

Charles Schumer and Elizabeth Dole
October 27, 2006
Democrats say they may be able to seize power in the U.S. Senate this year. Republicans think they can retain control. Sens. Charles Schumer, D-N.Y., and Elizabeth Dole, R-N.C., are leading the battle for their respective parties. They made a joint appearance in their capacities as chairs of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee and National Republican Senatorial Committee at the National Press Club on Oct. 25.
