A world free of poverty

Muhammad Yunus
December 15, 2006
In 1974, economist Muhammad Yunus had a simple idea for lifting people in his native Bangladesh out of poverty: make tiny loans to help poor people, mostly women, start small businesses. On Dec. 10, Yunus officially received the Nobel Peace Prize for his work. Yunus explained his vision for a poverty-free world in a Nov. 20 speech at the National Press Club.
